Face quickies

Some quick face sketches from last night. 10-15 minutes each. Been playing with Painter X3 brushes. They feel great.

Studio Lighting Test

Took a break from work and put together this quick and dirty 3-point lighting set up in Maya
Still very rough. Average render time for this 12k model is 3 minutes on my machine.

The sculpt is a drapery study from a while back that I never got time to finish.

Sin City studies

Here are Sin City stills. Two quick ones and one long Bruce Willis portrait. His face is way harder to paint than I thought it would.

Movie Still Studies.

Couple months ago, I started a Facebook group called StillPainted. (
Every week we vote for a movie and paint stills from it. The idea is simple. The process is fun and rewarding.
I was able to significantly improve my painting abilities since the start of this painting routine. Social aspect motivates and adds challenge to it. I will publish a longer post reflecting on my progress later on. For now, here are some of more successful studies.

Images are arranged in chronological order. Scroll down to get to the latest paintings.
